This isn't just an About Me page.
It's why The Scar Expert exists.
Hi, I'm Lorraine.
How I Found This Calling
I'm a Chartered Physiotherapist and the founder of The Scar Expert.
If you'd asked me at the beginning of my career where I thought physiotherapy would take me, I don't think I would ever have predicted this path.
Like many physiotherapists, I began working in musculoskeletal physiotherapy before discovering a real passion for women's health and pelvic health. That passion led me to establish Down Below Physio, where I had the privilege of supporting women through pregnancy, postnatal recovery and many other aspects of pelvic health.
For many years, I genuinely believed I had found my calling.
Then, quite unexpectedly, scar rehabilitation became the part of physiotherapy I couldn't stop coming back to.
A New Direction
What began as professional curiosity quickly became a passion. The more I learned about the impact scars can have on movement, comfort, confidence and quality of life, the more I realised this was an area of physiotherapy that deserved far greater awareness and specialist care.
I was also amazed by how quickly scars could respond when treated with the right approach. Sometimes the changes could be seen and felt almost immediately. It completely changed the way I thought about recovery after surgery and reinforced just how much difference specialist scar rehabilitation could make to someone's everyday life.
When it became personal.
Not long after beginning that journey, my own family experienced cancer.
My mum was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in her foot and underwent a series of major surgeries. Watching someone you love go through cancer treatment changes your perspective in ways you could never fully anticipate.
I saw first-hand not only the physical impact of surgery, but the reality of living with complex scars. From a skin graft on the sole of her foot, to groin surgery, a major abdominal incision, chest drains and the many visible reminders of treatment, it brought home just how much people endure—and how often the scars left behind become part of their daily lives long after treatment has finished.
My oncology scar rehabilitation training suddenly became deeply personal.
Sadly, Mum passed away in February 2026, but her journey strengthened something I had already begun to discover: this is where I feel I can make the greatest difference.
Every scar tells a story.
My role is to help make sure it doesn't continue to limit yours.
Today
My practice is dedicated exclusively to scar rehabilitation for people recovering from C-section, oncology and other surgical procedures.
Scar rehabilitation combines everything I value most as a physiotherapist: understanding the whole person, solving complex problems and helping people feel more comfortable and confident in their bodies again.
Your recovery deserves time, careful assessment and a personalised approach that considers not only your scar, but how it is affecting your movement, comfort, confidence and everyday life.
Whether you're recovering from a Caesarean birth, cancer treatment or another surgical procedure, it's a privilege to be part of that journey and to help you move forward with greater comfort and confidence.
Thank you for being here.
I look forward to meeting you.
